Vincent van Gogh dedicated several pictures to his mailman Joseph Roulin during his most creative time. Besides a painting depicting the mailman sitting down, we have this portrait depicting the letter carrier. His extravagant beard was staged by the painter with the distinctive brushstrokes. It was painted in Paris in 1889. The original is currently in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
